Depending on the device battery type, there can be different reasons. Here are the most common answers.
Bulit-in rechargeable batteries:
Many of our device have built in rechargeable batteries. Thes batteries take 2-4 hours to fully charge and most batteries will last 3-5 years under normal use.
- The most common cause of the battery not holding a charge is age. As the battery gets older, it lose it ability to hold a charge.
- Allowing the battery to completely to drain to zero to sit for long periods of time without charging can greatly reduce its lifespan. Instead, aim to recharge when the battery level drops to around 20%.
- The device is never completely turned off. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is always "listening" to be called by the app. While this is a low drain, it eventually will deplete the batteries charge.
- Keeping the device connected to the app when not in use. When the device is connected to the app, you will see a illuminated bluetooth symbol (
). This indicates that your device is still connected. Often times, we take our blood pressure or weight and place the app in the background. As long as your phone or tablet is within 30 feet (10 meters) of the device, BLE will call and connect to the device.
Regular disposable batteries:
Some of our device require use AA, AAA or button size batteries. These batteries require replacement every now and then. Factors that cause batteries to need replacement:
- The quality of the battery itself. The higher quality of the battery, the longer the shelf life and the better it store energy. Your higher grade battery is going to last longer that some of the bargain brand batteries. Look for an expiration date on the battery, higher quality batteries will normally have an expiration date of them.
- Look for the country of manufacture. Some countries are known for their high production rates, but lover cost and lower quality.
- Rechargeable replaceable batteries are often times a lower voltage than the single use batteries 1.25v vs 1.5v. These batteries start at a lower voltage and will deplete faster. Generally these types of batteries are not recommended for medical device.
- Keeping the device connected to the app when not in use. When the device is connected to the app, you will see a illuminated bluetooth symbol ( ). This indicates that your device is still connected. Often times, we take our blood pressure or weight and place the app in the background. As long as your phone or tablet is within 30 feet (10 meters) of the device, BLE will call and connect to the device.
