Taking a Measurement
Using the forehead thermometer is a quick and easy way to check someone's body temperature. Follow these simple steps:
Step 1 : Position the Thermometer
Hold the thermometer so the lens is facing the center of the forehead.
Keep about 1 inch of distance between the lens and forehead. Do not press the lens directly on the skin.
Aim the lens at the forehead center, avoiding the hairline or eyebrows. The central forehead gives the most accurate reading.
Step 2: Initiate the Measurement
Press and release the scan button to turn on the thermometer and initiate a measurement.
Keep the thermometer steady and in position until you hear a beep sound.
Step 3: Read the Temperature
The thermometer will beep when the measurement is complete.
The digital display will show the recorded temperature reading along with a color-coded fever indicator bar.
- When the measured temperature is below 99.5˚F (37.5°C), a green
is displayed on the screen.
- When the measured temperature is between 99.5˚F (37.5°C) and 100.2˚F (37.9°C), an orange
is displayed on the screen.
- When the measured temperature is 100.3˚F (38.0°C) or higher, a red
is displayed on the screen.
Result | T<99.5°F | 99.5°F≤T<100.4°F | T≥100.4°F |
Fever Severity | Normal | Slight Fever | High Fever |
Face Color | Green | Orange | Red |

Measurement results appear to be incorrect
- Check that the thermometer lens is perfectly clean. If in doubt, clean the lens with a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, wait 30 minutes before taking a measurement.
- Check that there is no hair, sweat, cream or other cosmetic products on the forehead surface.
- Make sure that the thermometer has been at the ambient temperature for at least 30 minutes.
Please note that different measuring sites could result in different measurements.
- The average normal oral temperature is 37°C.
- A rectal temperature is 0.3°C to 0.6°C higher than an oral temperature.
- Ear (eardrum) temperature is 0.3°C to 0.6°C higher than oral temperature.
- Axillary temperature is generally 0.3°C to 0.6°C lower than oral temperature.

The iHealth PT2L thermometer gives a result equivalent to an oral temperature. If you would like to compare the results obtained with your iHealth PT2L thermometer, please compare it to an oral temperature. Ear and rectal temperatures are normally higher than oral and forehead temperatures.
During an episode of fever, it takes time for the heat conduction to reach the forehead. There is a time lag. We recommend measuring the temperature every 5 minutes until the temperature stabilizes.
