In accordance with the requirements of standard EN ISO15197:2015 on blood glucose self-monitoring systems, the maximum allowed deviation is +/-15%.
When the results of 2 glucometers are compared, a difference of up to 30% can therefore be found without meaning that the 2 devices are inaccurate.
Lab results are done using high-precision analytical devices that measure blood plasma (the part of the blood that does not contain red blood cells) collected directly from a vein (no contamination by external elements). Conversely, the iHealth Gluco+ glucometer measures the whole blood glucose (plasma + red blood cells) from capillaries (taking a drop of blood from the end of the finger). Differences observed can be due:
- To the accuracy of the glucometer (max. deviation +/-15%)
- To contamination of the drop of blood during capillary collections (hands not clean enough, substance on the surface of the skin: cream, alcohol, food…)
- To the temperature of the glucometer and/or test strips (especially during hot or cold weather)
In case of doubt about the accuracy of results obtained with your iHealth Gluco+ glucometer, please perform a test with the control solution.
